Energy Storage Cabinet Internal Wiring Standards: Circuit Classification, Spacing Control, and Temperature Rise Calculation
2026/09/18 37
Energy storage cabinet internal wiring should be designed with three-level classification: power main circuits, auxiliary power circuits, and BMS sampling and communication circuits, with strong and weak currents routed separately and spaced apart. Temperature rise should be calculated with cable current capacity derated according to the actual ambient temperature inside the cabinet, to avoid accelerated insulation aging under long-term full charge/discharge conditions.

Energy storage cabinets are typical harsh environments: enclosed, high power density, and long-term operation. Wiring design directly determines system availability and lifespan.
1. Circuit Classification
Circuit Type
Characteristics
Cable Requirements
Main Power Circuit
High current, continuous charge/discharge
Large cross-section, low resistance, high temperature rating
Auxiliary Power Circuit
Medium/low current, intermittent
Conventional temperature rating and cross-section
BMS Sampling Circuit
Small signal, precision-sensitive
Shielded, interference-resistant, gauge selected by precision
Communication Circuit
Bus signals
Shielded twisted pair, routed independently
2. Spacing and Routing
Separate strong and weak currents: route sampling wires and power wires in separate trays, avoiding long parallel runs.
When crossing, cross perpendicular where possible to reduce coupling area.
Ground the shielding layer at a single point or per system requirements to avoid ground loops.
Keep high-current circuits away from temperature-sensitive components and communication modules.
3. Temperature Rise Calculation
The actual ambient temperature inside the cabinet is higher than outdoors, especially in summer.
Determine the cable's actual operating temperature from ambient temperature plus conductor temperature rise, and compare with the cable's temperature rating.
Enclosed cabinets have poor heat dissipation; current capacity must be corrected by derating factors.
Terminal crimping points are among the largest heat sources and require focused inspection.
4. Mechanical and Protection
Secure cables with ties under vibration and transport conditions to avoid long-term abrasion.
Add grommets or protective sleeves where cables pass through sheet-metal holes to prevent insulation cuts.
Cable bending radius must not be less than the allowable value, to avoid conductor stress concentration.
Poor terminal crimping → high contact resistance → local overheating or even burnout.
No temperature rise calculation → summer cabinet overtemperature → premature cable failure.
